SHRINKING SEASON 3
(If the first season of Shrinking or Falando a Real was about grief and the second about forgiveness, the third season which just premiered on Apple TV+ arrives with a clear mission: movement. Under the direction of Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, the series continues to be that hug in the form of therapy that makes us laugh and cry in the same episode.
Here is what you need to know about this new chapter in the journey of Jimmy, Paul, and company:
Jimmy Next Step
After spending the last few seasons trying to find himself again, Jimmy played by Jason Segel now faces the challenge of the void. With his daughter Alice played by Lukita Maxwell heading to college and his professional life stabilized, he needs to discover who Jimmy is after grief. The dynamic from Segel remains impeccable, balancing his chaotic therapist energy with palpable vulnerability.
Harrison Ford and Paul Vulnerability
Paul continues to be the grumpy heart of the series. In this season, we follow the character of Harrison Ford dealing with the progress of his condition and the time he has left. Ford delivers one of the best comedy performances of his career, showing that age has only refined his timing. His relationship with Jimmy and Gaby played by Jessica Williams reaches levels of emotional depth that are the high point of the season.
Heavyweight Guest Stars: Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox
One of the great assets this year is the addition of new faces. Jeff Daniels joins the cast playing Jimmy father, bringing a new layer to understand the origins of our protagonist behavior. Additionally, the special appearance by Michael J. Fox is a moving tribute, especially considering that the actor life journey served as inspiration for the construction of the character of Paul.
Gaby and the Expansion of the Supporting Cast
Gaby played by Jessica Williams gains even more space, exploring her career and new relationships, including a fun dynamic with the character of Damon Wayans Jr. Meanwhile, Liz played by Christa Miller and Derek played by Ted McGinley continue to be the MVPs of comedy, delivering the best lines and ensuring the tone of the series does not get too heavy.
Is it worth watching?
Absolutely. Shrinking achieves something rare: being a series about mental health that does not feel like a lecture. It treats trauma with honesty but never forgets that life is also made of absurd and funny moments. If this is truly the final season as suggested by the creators in the initial three-arc plan, it closes the healing cycle in a masterful way.)
